Career
Elsio was born in the municipality of Mimoso do Sul in the family of Lincoln Ribeiro Paiva and and Maria de Conceisan Resende de Paiva [1] . He spent his childhood years in Fazenda da Serra. There he began to play football, which was entertained by the Dutch, who were studying the possibility of peat extraction in San Jose das Torres [1] .
In the early 1920s, Elsio moved to Rio de Janeiro to work as a salesman [1] . In 1923, he began playing for the local club Mangueira , and the next year he joined the Flamengo [1] . Elsio made his debut with Flamengo on June 9, 1924 in a match with Vila Novaya in which his team won 4-0. A year later, his team won the state championship , and in 1927 repeated this success. The defender played for the club for 8 years, having spent 141 matches (73 wins, 21 draws and 47 losses) and scored 6 goals. Elsio played his last game with Mengo on September 27, 1931 with Fluminense ; his team lost the match with a score of 1: 2. Finish a career in this team defender forced the onset of the era of professionalism in Brazilian football [2] . He returned to his homeland and began to play for the local Mimoense club, where he spent two seasons [1] .
Elsio died in a car accident in 1970 near Barbacena when his Volkswagen car rolled over. The next day he was buried in the Bonfin Cemetery in Minas Gerais [1] .
