Dimitrios Levidis ( Greek Δημήτριος Λεβίδης , FR. Dimitry Lèvidis ; April 8, 1886 , Athens - May 29, 1951 , ibid. ) - Greek composer.
It came from an ancient Byzantine aristocratic family. He began to study music in 1898-1905. in Athens at the Lina von Lautner Conservatory and at the Athens Conservatory at Frank Choisy and Dionysios Lavrangas . He continued his musical education in 1906-1907. in Lausanne by Alexander Denerea and in 1907-1908 in Munich under the direction of Richard Strauss (composition), Felix Motl (orchestration) and Friedrich Klose (counterpoint).
In 1910 he left Munich and settled in Paris , during the First World War he served in the French army, in 1929 received French citizenship. The work of Levidis developed the traditions of French impressionism , without being alienated from Greek motives. His Poem for violin and orchestra was first performed on February 24, 1927 by Marcel Darje and the Straram orchestra , and in the editorial for the waves Marteno was included in the program of the first public concert using this instrument on April 20, 1928 (soloed by its inventor Maurice Marteno , conducted Rene Baton ).
Returning to Greece in 1932, Levidis began teaching at the Greek Conservatory , and in 1934 he founded a separate conservatory in the Athens region of Faliro (later merging with the Greek Conservatory). In 1946-1947 headed the Union of Greek Composers.
Levidis owns the music of the ballet The Talisman of the Gods ( Greek Τό φυλαχτό των θεών ; 1925, second edition 1945-1946) and The Shepherd and Fairy ( Greek Ο βοσκός και η νεράιδα ; 1943), numerous choral and vocal compositions. Light music in the Paris period, Levidis published under the pseudonym- shifter Dimitry Sidivel ( FR. Dimitry Sidivel ).
The daughter of Levidis, Lucy Marie Cecile France Levidis (1911-1966), under the pseudonym Maria Veldi ( fr. Maria Veldi ) became the author of several popular words in the 1950s. French songs.
