The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics ( The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics ) - an encyclopedia , a quarterly updated directory of economic articles (at the end of 2010 it contains 1919 articles). As a collection of articles on various sections of economic science is a manual for students, graduate students and teachers of economic specialties.

Edition History
Historically, the first edition of the Dictionary of Political Economy Theory was published under the editorship of Inglis Palgrev in three volumes in 1894, 1896, 1899. The first edition contained 2410 pages [1] .
The second edition was published under the editorship of G. Higgs in 1923-1926 [2] .
The third edition was titled “New Palgrave: A Dictionary of Economics” and was edited by J. Itwell , M. Milgate , P. Newman in 1987 in four volumes [3] . The publication had 4 million words, 4,000 pages of records, including 1,300 articles (with 4,000 cross-references), and 655 biographies. There were 927 authors in total, including 13 Nobel Prize winners in economics .
The second edition of New Palgrave: A Dictionary of Economics, edited by Stephen Durloff and Lawrence E. Blum was published in 2008 in eight volumes. The publication consisted of 7680 pages, 5.8 million words, 1506 authors took part in it, including 25 Nobel Prize winners in economics [4] .
Palgrave Macmillan has created a series of compact volumes containing reprints from the original New Palgrave: Dictionary of Economics (1987). The first volume of The World of Economics in 1987 was translated into Russian and published by Infra-M as an Economic Theory in 2004. The second volume of Finance was published by the HSE as Finance in 2008. The third volume of The Invisible Hand of 1988 was translated into Russian and published by the HSE as the “ Invisible Hand” of the market in 2009. The remaining volumes (“Economic Development”, “Money”, “Utility and Probability”, “Game Theory”, “Social Economics”, “Allocation, Information, and Markets”, “Capital Theory”, “Problems of the Planned Economy”, Time Series & Statistics, General Equilibrium, Marxian Economics) have not been translated.
