Esperantist of the Year ( Esper. Esperantisto de la Jaro ) - an honorary title awarded annually by La Ondo de Esperanto (with Esper. - “Esperanto Wave”) with the help of an international . The title was established in 1998 . The initiative was supported by representatives of various areas of the Esperanto community and a number of independent experts. Due to the lack of clearly and comprehensively formulated criteria for awarding a title, the jury's verdict often causes criticism.
