History

The Berolina House building, as well as the adjacent Alexander House twin building, which forms a single architectural ensemble with it, was built in the framework of the reconstruction project of the busy Alexanderplatz square, conceived by the adviser for the construction of the city administration, architect Martin Wagner, in the late 1920s, carried out completely with the onset of the Great Depression and the transfer of power to the National Socialists .

One of the first tenants in Berolina House was the C&A retail concern, which occupied two floors, as well as the legendary swing cafe Café Braun . On the roof terrace there was a garden, which was also used as a dance floor.

After World War II, the Soviet military commandant's office moved to Berolina House. In 1952, the building was transferred to the Berlin magistrate. In the early 1950s, the building was reconstructed. Departmental institutions finally left Berolina House in 1998.

In the next seven years, the building was idle, and in 2005 the new owner began an expensive rehabilitation of the facility, which lasted until September 2006. The reconstruction was carried out by the architect Sergei Enverovich Choban .
