Olga Apollonovna Skalkovskaya (married Bertenson ; 1850 , Odessa , Russian Empire - 1941 , Leningrad , RSFSR ) - Russian opera ( dramatic soprano ) and chamber singer. She had a smooth and sonorous voice of a thick timbre.

Biography
Born in the family of the corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, the historian Apollon Aleksandrovich Skalkovsky (1808-1899) [1] .
She studied singing at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (class K. Everardi ) after which from 1875 to 1877 she was a soloist at the Mariinsky Theater . She made her debut in the theater in the part of Margarita ( Faust , S. Gounod ). The audience and critics warmly welcomed the new singer:
“New Margarita captivated the audience with her extremely attractive voice ... appearance and, in particular, extraordinary naturalness and immediacy of performance. The natural talent of the artist was manifested at every step, a natural play, expressive facial expressions, intelligible pronunciation, beautiful voice "

The first performer of the parties: Mirra (" Sardanapal ", V. Jonsiere ) and Yedi (" Son of the Mandarin ", C. Cui ) [3] . Among other parties: Gorislava (“ Ruslan and Lyudmila ”, M. Glinka ), Tamara (“ Demon ” by A. Rubinstein ); Page Urban (The Huguenots , J. Meyerbeer ).
The partners of the singer were: V.N. Aleinikov , S.I. Gabel , P.A. Lodiy , E.P. Kadmina , F.P. Komissarzhevsky , I.A. Melnikov , O.O. Palechek . She sang under the direction of conductors V.I. Glavach , E.F.Napravnik .
From 1870s to 1880s she gave concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow, performing the romances of R. Schumann, P. Viardot, C. Cui, P. Tchaikovsky, M. Balakirev, M. Mussorgsky (the composer personally performed several times with singer in concerts), A. Dargomyzhsky and others.
Having married the famous physician Lev Bertenson , she left the stage and devoted herself mainly to teaching activities.
There is a portrait of singer artist E. Lipgart (1891), located in the collection of the State Russian Museum .
