Biography
Born on January 21, 1919 in the village of Morozovichi, Gomel Province, RSFSR (now Buda-Koshelevsky District, Gomel Region, Belarus). A high school graduate in Gomel .
In 1936-1941 he studied at the Moscow Higher Technical School. N. E. Bauman . Led records of lectures in the Belarusian language , joined the compatriots [1] . In 1947 he graduated with honors from the Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute .
From 1941 he worked at the Chelyabinsk Kirovsky Plant : a design engineer, a leading design engineer, and a head of a design team. He participated in the modernization of the KV tank, in the creation of the SU-152 , in the development of a cast turret for the IS-3 tank.
In 1943, as a representative of the plant, he was seconded to the formed regiment of self-propelled artillery units SU-152, participated in combat operations near Orel, assisted in the development of new equipment and studying the operating experience of the SU-152 in combat conditions.
From April 1946 to January 1948 at the Komsomol work (Komsomol Komsomol Central Committee at the Kirov factory, secretary of the Chelyabinsk city Komsomol committee).
In February 1948 he was transferred to Leningrad by the designer of the branch of the plant number 100. Since 1949, the leading design engineer of the VNII-100 . Since 1951, the party organizer of the Central Committee of the CPSU in the VNII-100. Since September 1953, the head of the design bureau, deputy head of the department, head of the laboratory of the VNII-100 laboratory.
In 1958 he defended his thesis on the topic "The study of the distribution of stresses in the torsion of tank suspensions".
Since January 16, 1960 the director of the VNII-100. When it was in 1962, the institute was moved to the village. Gorelovo Leningrad region. Participant in the development of the T-64 tank and self-propelled chassis "Lunokhod-1" and "Lunokhod-2" .
In February 1971, he was dismissed from the post of director, continued to work at the institute as head of the laboratory (until 1987) and chief research officer.
In 1975 he defended his doctoral thesis. Professor (1981).
Since August 1991, retired.
He died on March 29, 2002 and was buried in the Nikolsky cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery.
Awards
Lenin Prize in 1967 - for participation in the creation of the T-64 tank.
He was awarded the Order of the Red Star (1945), "Badge of Honor", "For Services to the Fatherland" IV degree (1999), 4 medals.
Family
His wife is Rimma Yakovlevna Potapova (1923–2010). Daughters - Galina Starovoytova (1946-1998) and Olga Starovoytova.
