History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1543 . The municipality of San Pablo was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1968 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southern part of the department, on the left bank of the Magdalena River , at a distance of approximately 362 kilometers southeast (SSE) from the city of Cartagena , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 23 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of San Pablo borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Simiti , in the northwest with the municipality of Santa Rosa del Sur , in the southeast with the municipality of Cantagal , in the west and southwest with the territory of the Antioquia department, in the east - with the territory of the department of Santander . The area of the municipality is 1977 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 33,291 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 52.1% of the population of San Pablo, women - 47.9%, respectively. In racial terms, blacks , mulattoes and Raisals made up 73.7% of the population of the city; whites and mestizos - 26.3% [4] . The literacy rate among the entire population was 78.5%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of San Pablo is plant growing , animal husbandry and mining.
63.9% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 26.7% are service enterprises, 8.6% are industrial enterprises, 0.8% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
