Eastern Review ( English Eastern Herald, Eastern Review ) - a weekly regional newspaper, founded in St. Petersburg in 1882 by Nikolai Yadrintsev ; in 1888 the publication was moved to Irkutsk .

The newspaper published articles on geography, history, ethnography and the economy of Siberia , as well as - reported on scientific expeditions and studies of Siberian scientists; in the period of his first exile, from October 1900 until his escape in August 1902, Leon Trotsky (under the pseudonym Antide-Oto ) actively collaborated with the publication. Since 1894, the former political exile Narodnolets I. I. Popov became the editor-publisher of the newspaper. The newspaper itself was considered the interpreter of the “Siberian world view”, the precepts of N. M. Yadrintsev and G. N. Potanin, the “leader of public opinion” of a considerable part of educated Siberians — and the moral sentences passed on the pages of the publication were recognized as the “voice of truth” [1] .
The newspaper was closed in January 1906 as “disloyal to the government” in connection with the coverage of the events of the 1905 Revolution .
