Locarno International Film Festival - A film festival held annually in August in the city of Locarno ( canton of Ticino , Switzerland ). It is considered the fourth most important European film festival after Cannes, Venice and Berlin [1] .

About the Festival
In 1946, post-war Europe hosted film festivals in Cannes and Venice. In the same year, the first festival in the Italian canton of Switzerland Ticino took place. Initially, it was planned to conduct a film competition in the border Lugano, but in a referendum, residents voted against the reorganization of Chani Park into an open-air theater. For 10 days, Locarno becomes the center of cinematic life in different countries. Festival viewing takes place in 10 viewing cinemas of the city, as well as in the open-air cinema on Piazza Grande for 8 thousand seats with a screen of 26x14 meters. Those who wish can purchase subscriptions that give the right to attend all shows.
The laureates of the festival are awarded a prize - a leopard figurine. The symbol of the festival was not chosen by chance: the emblem of the city depicts a mythical animal resembling a lioness or a tiger. Numerous bars and restaurants decorate their summer terraces with leopard-colored umbrellas, leopard flags flutter in the city, and even many large stores shop in leopard packaging.
"Golden Leopard" is awarded for the best film of the competition, a cash prize is shared between the producer and director of the film. “ Silver ”, “bronze” and “mini” - respectively for male and female roles, directing, debut work. In addition to competitive prizes, worthy representatives of world film production are awarded annually for their contribution and achievements in cinema [2] .
On Piazza Grande in the city center, up to 8 thousand spectators gather daily [3] .
In Locarno, the paintings of Alexei German , Alexander Sokurov , Kira Muratova , Nikolai Dostal , Svetlana Proskurina gained their first international recognition [3] .
