Square named after Chingiz Aitmatov

In December 2015, the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Russia Bolot Dzhunusov asked the Moscow Government to perpetuate the name of the Russian and Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Torekulovich Aitmatov in city toponyms [1] . In May 2016, the Moscow Interdepartmental Names Commission, on behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, considered and approved the ambassador’s proposal. The name was assigned to the previously nameless square by the resolution of the Government of Moscow of April 25, 2017 [2] [3] .

In June 2017, the Commission on Monumental Art at the Moscow City Duma unanimously decided to erect a monument to the writer in the square [4] .
