Biography

Varun was born in Bombay in the family of director and his wife Karuna [2] [3] . His older brother Rohita is a director, and Uncle Anil is an actor. He received his secondary education at the College of Trade and Economics and a degree in business management at [4] [5] . Prior to his acting career, he was an assistant director for Karan Johar in the film My Name is Khan .

In 2012, Varun made his debut in the film along with other debutants Sidhart Malhotra and Aliya Bhatt . His hero is Rohan Nanda, the son of a wealthy businessman who competes with his girlfriend and best friend in an annual student competition. The film was a commercial success, collecting 967 million rupees worldwide [6] .

Two years later, the film was released, directed by his father, and which was a remake of the film in Telugu . His hero is Srinath Prasad, an impulsive prankster who falls in love with the heroine of Ileana de Cruz , but under pressure agrees to marry the heroine Nargis Fakhri [7] [8] . In the same year, Varun played the flirting Punjabi guy Rakesh Sharma in the film “ Bride Hampti Sharma, ” which became one of the most profitable films of the year in India [6] .

In 2015, the criminal thriller Badlapur was released, where he played a man who avenges the murder of his wife and son for 15 years [9] [10] . The following year, Varun again starred with Alia Bhatt in the film Badrinath Ki Dulhania , as well as their first commercial success film. In the same year, the film Judwaa 2 was released , which was a continuation of the cult comedy “ Carefree Twins ”, where the actor played a double role for the first time in his career, the film was a commercial success [15] . Varun is currently starring in the films Sui Dhaaga: Made In India and October.

In 2019, the Kalank film was released, where he played a muscular blacksmith, but despite the excellent cast, the film failed at the box office, becoming the first failed film in his career.
