Carthage Cathedral (411)

The Cathedral of Carthage in 411 is a Christian church council whose task was to eliminate the split between Catholic Catholicism and Donatists .

The cathedral was convened at the initiative of the Western Roman emperor Honorius, announced on October 14, 410. Held in June 411 in the terms of Gargilius in Carthage , chaired by the tribune of . 565 members took part in the cathedral: 286 supporters of the catholicity of the church and 279 donatists. Three meetings took place - on June 1, 3 and 8, in which Bishop Hippo Aurelius Augustine acted as a conductor of the catholic point of view. As a result, Marcellin made a decision in support of catholicity and condemned the teaching of the Donatists. Their church property was confiscated, and they themselves were deprived of Roman citizenship. This caused unrest in the city, and in 413, Marcellinus was killed by the Donatists [1] [2] [3] .

Later, the church canonized both Marcellinus (Catholic Memorial Day - September 13) and Augustine (Catholic Memorial Day - November 15, Memorial Day in the Russian Orthodox Church - June 15) [4] [5] .
