American International Drafts Championship for Men 2002

The 11th Pan - American Championship in International Drafts for Men was held in 2002, St. Andrew, Grenada in the round robin. 20 athletes from 12 countries participated. According to the regulations, two rounds a day were played without days off [1] .

In the 16th round, the representative of Trinidad and Tobago Dixon Mon was disqualified for playing a draw with Adam Andall and immediately publicly showed how he could win this game. And, contrary to the Code, according to which “a participant who has withdrawn from the competition after playing more than half of the games retains his points”, the results of all his previous 15 games were canceled [1] .

The question of the winner was decided in the final round. The champion was the international grandmaster Vladimir Weizman , who beat Timothy Dennis and scored 30 points out of 36 possible. Adam Andall met in the final round with two-time winner of the Pan American Championship, Guno Burleson . Their game ended in a draw, and Adam Andall scored 29 points. Long lead Franz Forbin failed to defeat Vicente Contreras and also scored 29 points. The fate of the second place was decided in an additional match between them with a shortened time control, in which Adam Andall won. Franz Forbin without a single loss in the main tournament took third place. Also, the last tournament without defeats Guno Burleson was fourth with 28 points.
