Zundel, Ernst

In 1958, Zundel moved from his native Germany to Canada. In 1976 , he established Samisdat Publishers, Ltd. in Toronto , which “ has become perhaps the largest in the extreme right-wing environment: it publishes and distributes not only the works of deniers, but also other anti-Semitic and racist literature and records in Germany and around the world. Hitler’s speeches, films and songs of the time ” ^[2] . The name is taken from samizdat in ( Russian samizdat ) - a publishing system that was practiced in the USSR for secret distribution of documents and works that could not be published officially.

He was convicted for the first time in 1985 for the book “Did Six Million Really Die?”, Where he reduced the number of Jews killed to 300 thousand and accused Israel of inventing the Holocaust ^[2] .

In 1988, he was convicted by a Canadian court for inciting ethnic hatred ^[2] , in 1991 he arrived in Germany, where he was fined 6400 marks. Then he returned to Canada, where in 1992 he was acquitted by a decision of the Supreme Court, which recognized his right to freedom of speech (see Canadian Hate Propaganda Laws ).

In 1990, he began to promote his views through the radio, and in 1994 created his own revisionist website on the Internet ^[2] .

On February 5, 2003, Zundel was arrested in the United States for violating immigration laws, and on February 19, 2003 he was deported to Canada (although his permission to stay in Canada at that time was already over). He spent two years in a Canadian prison before he was officially recognized as a “national security threat” for this country, and on February 24, 2005, Canadian justice authorities granted permission to transfer him to Germany, where a trial began ^[3] .

In 2007, for the creation of an Internet site that posted publications that denied the Holocaust ^[2] , a city court in Mannheim sentenced Zundel to 5 years in prison, which included 2 years already spent in the cell. On March 1, 2010, Ernst Zündel was released from prison after a 5-year sentence. ^[4]
