History
In the 16th century there was a tavern, now known as Hyvinkäänkylä, located about halfway between Helsinki and Hämeenlinna. The first tax directories already indicated several houses in this place.
The village of Hyvinkää expanded significantly in the 19th century thanks to the construction of a railway network throughout Finland, which began in 1861 .
The existing city center arose thanks to the railway station Helsinki - Hämenlinna , preserved to this day. Hanko- Hyvinkää Railway was the first private railway in Finland. It was founded by Finnish State RR Co. in 1875 . At the beginning of the 20th century, Hyvinkäa village became an intermediate point for emigrants leaving Hanko in search of a new life in North America .
Thanks to the pine forests, Hyvinkää has very clean air. In the 1880s, a group of doctors from Helsinki opened a sanatorium here.
During industrialization , a wool factory appeared in Hyvinkää. In the 1990s, the factory ceased to exist. Now in its brick buildings are exhibitions.
Hyvinkää airfield was Finland 's main airport after World War II due to the fact that the airport in Malmi in Helsinki was controlled by allies. Near the airfield there is a motorsport center.
