Game career

Lazar began his professional hockey career at the Okanagan Hockey Academy under the program for the development of young hockey players in British Columbia , after which in 2010 he joined the Edmonton Oil Kings western hockey club [1] . In 2011, Curtis was included in the provincial team for participation in the Canadian games and became the tournament's top scorer, updating the performance records set in past draws of Sidney Crosby (17 assists) and Stephen Stamkos (12 goals) [2] . For three seasons from 2011/12 to 2013/14, Lazar and his team reached the final of the Ed Chinovet Cup , where he met with the Portland Winterhawks club, won twice in the final series, and in 2014 managed to win the memorial cup [3] . In January 2013, Curtis took part in the match of the best prospectuses throughout the Canadian Hockey League [4] .

As a result of the 2013 NHL draft, Lazar was selected in the 1st round under the overall 17th number by the Ottawa Senators club [5] : scouts singled out the player’s strengths as a defensive and attacking forward [6] . However, for the 2013/14 season, Curtis was sent again to Edmonton Oil Kings [7] . Lazar's debut in the NHL took place on October 9, 2014 in a meeting against the Nashville Predators team: Curtis himself managed to spend 15 minutes of pure time on the court [8] . In the middle of the 2014/15 season, the club allowed Lazar to take part in the 2015 World Youth Championship due to its low performance; Curtis himself was appointed team captain [9] . Having earned 9 points for performance, Lazar entered the final six of the best scorers of the tournament and helped the team win the tournament by beating the Russian youth team 5-4 in the final match [10] .

For two seasons in the NHL as part of the Senators, Curtis was never able to demonstrate the high performance with which he differed in the youth leagues, because in the 2016/17 season he was removed from the main team after being diagnosed with mononucleosis in his offseason [11] and after recovery, he took part in NHL games only in the event of injuries to major players [12] . On March 1, 2017, Lazar was exchanged at Calgary Flames for Jyrki Yokipakka and the peak of the second round of the 2017 draft pick [13] . Before the draft expansion of 2017, Lazar was protected by the club from choosing the Vegas Golden Knights [14] .
