Biography

Born in Odessa on January 3, 1922.

In 1940, after graduating from high school decade number 36, was drafted into the army.

After the start of the war, he was the senior operator of the Redut-3 radar.

On September 21, 1941, on the indicator, about 230 fascist bombers were deciphered, and soon realized that two of the three shock columns had begun to move towards the Gulf of Finland. I guessed: they are flying to bomb Kronstadt to destroy the artillery of the Baltic Fleet.

Contrary to the instructions, without encryption, he sent a report to the command post of the air defense of the Leningrad Front, to Kronstadt and to the command post of the air defense of the Baltic Fleet.

An alarm was declared, and the German air attack on Kronstadt was unsuccessful.

After the war, Gelfenstein continued to engage in radiolocation, graduated from LPI (1961), received about 20 copyright certificates for inventions.
