History

In February 2015, the PROVODA advertising agency initiated the collection of signatures on a petition to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation with a request to issue a new banknote of two thousand rubles with the image of Vladivostok on it. The idea of the initiative was the song of the group Mumiy Troll " Vladivostok 2000 " [3] [4] . In response, the Far Eastern Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation officially announced that a banknote of two thousand rubles will not be issued in Russia, since the nominal number of banknotes of the Bank of Russia fully meets the needs of cash circulation [5] . In August 2015, the Xinhua Chinese news agency published news about the official circulation of the Russian ruble on a par with the yuan in the border district of Suifenhe , reinforcing the news with an image of two thousand rubles banknote that did not exist at that time [6] .

In 2016, the Bank of Russia announced a symbol contest for new banknotes in denominations of 200 and 2000 rubles, which was held from June to October. Announcement of the winners of the competition was published on the site your-russia.rf [7] . The winners were announced the participants of the "Far East" and "Sevastopol". It was also announced that the winners of the competition will be depicted on banknotes of 200 and 2000 rubles. Which of the two winners will be shown on a banknote of 200 rubles, and which on a banknote of 2000 rubles, should have been determined by the Bank of Russia Board of Directors. Symbols of the Far East were chosen Vostochny Cosmodrome and the bridge to the Russian island . The symbols of Sevastopol were Tauric Chersonesos and the Monument to the Scuttled Ships . The results of the competition were announced on October 7, 2016 on the live television channel " Russia 1 " [8] .

On February 1, 2017, a message appeared on the Bank of Russia website that the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia decided to issue banknotes in denominations of 200 (an image of Khersones and a monument to the sunken ships) and 2,000 rubles (a bridge to Russky Island and Vostochny Cosmodrome) [9] .

On October 12, 2017, new banknotes were put into circulation [1] .

The use of new technologies in the issue of banknotes

In June 2017, the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Russia Georgy Luntovsky addressed the press with a message that new technologies will be used in banknotes of a new type that will affect the security and convenience of using banknotes for blind and visually impaired people [10] [11] .

When creating banknotes of 200 and 2000 rubles, Segoe Ui font from Microsoft was used [12] .

The Goznak enterprise has developed the Banknote 2017 mobile application, which allows you to learn more about the design and authenticity of new banknotes, as well as using a mobile device’s camera to check each specific banknote for security elements [13] . The application can be installed only on a small number of the most modern devices. On the banknotes on the front side there is a QR code with a link to the page of the Central Bank with a description of the protective elements of banknotes [14] .
