A sequel called “ Spawn: The Animation ” has been under development since 2009, and Keith David will return to voicing his character [3] .
"Spawn" took the 5th place in the list of "The Best Animated Films in Comics of All Time" according to IGN [4] , and 23rd in the IGN list "Top 25 animated series of all times and peoples" [5] .
Story
The series tells the story of a former Special Forces soldier named Al Simmons , who worked for one of the government agencies in the Black Ops squad. He was betrayed and burned alive by Chapple, a man whom he considered his close friend. After his death, Simmons goes to hell, but hopes that one day he will return to his beloved wife Vanda.
To do this, Al makes a deal with Melbolgia - the lord of the eighth circle of Hell. The deal was simple: Simmons should lead the army of Hell (become the so-called Hellspaune, or Spawn for short) in exchange for the opportunity to meet with Vanda for the last time. However, Simmons was deceived - his body was more like a dead than a living thing. And only a mask and a huge red cloak hid his ugliness.
Resurrected, Spawn begins to search for his wife. However, as it turned out, 5 years have passed since the death of Al. Wanda survived the loss of her husband and married Terry Fitzgerald , Al's best friend, from whom she had a daughter, Sayen. Terry works for Jason Wynn , an influential shadow figure, the head of a government agency who, among other things, is an arms dealer on the black market and, as it turned out, is the man who ordered to kill Simmons. Jason’s actions also endanger Terry, Wanda and their daughter. Realizing that he is no one in the life of Wanda, Al still vows to protect her new family.
The series depicts Spawn hiding in dark alleys and killing everyone who invades his new territory. Assessing these actions as unworthy of Spawn’s time and strength, Melbolgia sends another ward, a demon called the Defiler , who has taken the form of a fat clown whose goal is to convince Spawn to wreak havoc in the name of Hell.
Spawn struggles with the lure of evil, as well as trying not only to escape the pursuers from Hell, but also to defend himself against the attackers from Heaven, who need to destroy him, thereby weakening the forces of Hell. They do not gain an advantage in the escalation of war between two spiritual masters. As war becomes more and more global, the line between the forces of good and evil becomes increasingly blurred. Spawn finds help in the form of old Cogliostro , who is Hellspaun, overcame demonic forces.
In the last episodes of the series, Spawn, having learned to reincarnate, comes in the form of Terry, makes love to Vanda, fertilizes her. It turns out that there is a prophecy, which states that the child spawned by Hellspaune will play a decisive role during Armageddon and, perhaps, is the reason why Spawn was allowed to return to Earth.
