Yuri (Yulian) Moiseevich Bratolyubov (April 11, 1931 - June 26, 2009) - Soviet and American trombonist, head of the jazz ensemble.

Biography

In 1955 he graduated from the Kiev evening music school (now named after K. Stetsenko) in the trombone class. He was a student of Vasily Garan [1] .

Artist of the Variety Orchestra of the Ukrainian Republican Variety Band (1957-1961) and the Dnepr Jazz Orchestra (1961-1964). In 1962 he directed the first professional jazz ensemble (octet) in Kiev : V. Klimkov - trumpet, Yu. Bratolyubov - trombone, M. Reznitsky - alto saxophone, clarinet, B. Ludmer - tenor saxophone, I. Litvinsky - baritone - saxophone, V. Ilyin - piano, 3. Khamistos - double bass, L. Zalyapin - drums. In 1964-1976 he was a trombonist of the Variety Orchestra of the Ukrainian Radio and Television.

In 1976 he emigrated to the United States [2] . Abroad he began to write music for films, worked at the Universal Pictures studio . He often worked with composers Marco Beltrami , Randy Edelman and Danny Elfman and led teams preparing a number of soundtracks for films such as “ Somewhere in Time ” (1980), “ From Africa ” (1985), “ Escape from the Shawshank ” (1994), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Titanic (1997), American Beauty (1999), The Green Mile (1999), Gangster (2007), WALL-I (2008) and Ralph (2009).

Yuri Bratolyubov died on June 26, 2009 in California , and was buried in the Jewish cemetery at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, Los Angeles [3] .
