Vanat, Ivan

Ivan Vanat ( Slovak. Ivan Vanat ; August 13, 1926 - July 17, 2015 ) is a Slovak historian and teacher . Doctor of Philosophy (1968), full member of the historical and philosophical section of the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society (1992).

Born on August 13, 1926 in the village of Vyshna Pisana (now Svidnik district of the Prešov Region of Slovakia) in a peasant family. He graduated from the Presov Greek Catholic Seminary (1947) and the University of Bratislava. J. Komensky (1958). The main stages of work: a teacher at the Maltsev School (1947–48), director of the Virav School (1948–51), employee of the Presov Education Department of the Committee for Popular Culture (1951–1953), head of the History Department of the Presov Institute for the Improvement of Teacher Qualifications (1958–1990). In addition, part-time - an employee of the Research Institute of Pedagogy (1970-1974) and a teacher at the Presov Pedagogical Faculty (1969-1975). He defended his thesis on the topic: “The Ukrainian Question in Slovakia” (1969).

Vanat is the author of more than 100 scientific, scientific, methodological and journalistic works, including the two-volume monograph Essays on the Recent History of Ukrainians in Eastern Slovakia. 1918-1948 ”(Presov, 1979-1985). Separate publications by Vanat are devoted to the problems of the liberation of Czechoslovakia during the Second World War, in particular the participation of Ukrainians in Transcarpathia and Eastern Slovakia in hostilities, the exchange (option) of the population between Czechoslovakia and the USSR in the spring of 1947, the state and prospects of development of Ukrainian schools in Slovakia in the post-war period and to others.

Member of the editorial boards of Ukrainian-language periodicals in the Slovak Republic - Nove Zhittya, Amicably Forward and Dukla (1969-1990); member of the Museum Council of the Museum of Ukrainian Culture in the town of идwidnik and the editorial board of his “Scientific Collection”; one of the founders of the Cultural Union of Ukrainian Workers (1954), deputy chairman of his board (1969-1990).

He died on July 17, 2015 in Presov.
