Biography
From the noble family of Venksterns . Born in the family of Vladimir Alekseevich Venkstern and Lidia Nikolaevna Venkstern (nee Samghin). V.A. Venkstern was repressed (1938-1943). He was the eldest son of an amateur playwright A. A. Venkstern . Niece of Natalia Wenkstern .
In 1936 she entered the biology faculty of Moscow State University, since 1939, in parallel with her studies, she worked in the laboratory of the Institute of Biochemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences , headed by Vladimir Alexandrovich Engelhardt .
She graduated from the university in June 1941. After the outbreak of war - in evacuation. Husband Evgeny Lvovich Brode died on the Volkhov Front on November 1, 1941.
She was able to resume scientific activity in 1943 thanks to the help of V.A. Engelhardt. In 1949 she defended her thesis.
In 1959, together with V.A. Engelhardt, she moved to a new institute called the Institute of Radiation and Physico-Chemical Biology (IRFB). In 1965, when molecular biology was recognized, the institute was renamed the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB).
The laboratory of A. A. Baev, in which T.V. Venkstern worked, was engaged in deciphering the primary structure of valine tRNA from yeast. The work progressed successfully and was completed in 1967. This was the third publication of the primary structure of tRNA in the world, and in 1969 the authors were awarded the State Prize.
The last period of activity in the IMB is associated with the perpetuation of the memory of V. A. Engelhardt and A. A. Baev.
In 1998, she left for the USA to her daughter (Natalya Evgenievna Brode, professor of chemistry at Boston University).
