Biography
Born in Mechelen . The son of Simon Bol and Catherine van den Stock. He received his first drawing lessons from his uncles, Jacob Bol I and Jan Bol, who were artists. He traveled through Germany, spending time in Heidelberg from 1550 to 1552, in search of knowledge. In 1560 he returned to Mechelen, where he lived for 12 years. In 1572, having gone broke during the Spanish pogroms, he fled to Antwerp . In 1574 he was admitted to the guild. In 1584 he moved to Holland, first to Dordrecht , then to Delft , but already in 1591 to Amsterdam . He died in 15 93 in Amsterdam from the plague [1] [2] .
Among his students were his stepson Frans Böhls, Joris Hofnagel, Jacob Saveri (I) and Rommert van Beve. Gillis van Koningsloe and David Winkbons were also considered his students.
