Rozaliya Moiseevna Solodovnik (also Rozaliya Movshevna , originally Ruzia Movshevna ; born March 3, 1920 , Pereyaslavl , Poltava province ) - Soviet and Russian translator of fiction and historical prose from English and German .
Biography
She grew up in Moscow . During the Great Patriotic War, she was evacuated with her husband's parents in Ashgabat [1] . Being a student of the history department of the Moscow Pedagogical Institute before evacuation, she passed the state final exams already in Ashgabat. Here in 1942 her daughter was born and she found out about the death of her husband. After returning to Moscow in March 1944, she got a job in Glavlit as an interpreter from English, French and German, as well as political editor (censor) of foreign correspondence and printed materials at the Central Telegraph [2] [3] . In the 1960s, she began translating fiction, mainly adventure prose, from English .
Among the books translated by R. M. Solodovnik are “Australian Robinson Crusoe” by William Buckley , “Antarctic Odyssey” by Raymond Priestley , “Glades in the Oaks, or Bee Hunter” by James Fenimore Cooper , “The Most Terrible Journey” by Epsley Cherry Garrard , “History Africa since ancient times ”by Thei Buttner ,“ The Enchanted Islands of the Galapagos ”by Irenius von Able-Abesfeld ,“ The Australian Pintugi Tribe ”by Douglas Lockwood , Dorin Owens Malek, Romance Novels, Patricia Knoll, Header McAllister, Julie Jaylessne Bairns, Mary Juliesne Beards, Mary , Pamela Ingram, Helen Dixon and other authors [4] .
In the 1970-1980s, along with her second husband A. L. Lyubimov, she participated in expeditions to the Kola Peninsula , the Caucasus and the Far East [5] .
Family
- Her husband is a political instructor, guards lieutenant Samuel L. Minkin (1919-1942), died at the front [6] .
- Daughter - Elena Samuilovna Minkina (August 28, 1942, Ashgabat - August 22, 1992, Boston ), translator and literary critic, editorial staff of the journal "Contemporary Fiction Abroad."
- Granddaughter - Masha Gessen , journalist and publicist.
