Niran

Content

History

The kibbutz arose in 1971 as a military outpost, which was supposed to prevent infiltration from Jordan and additionally served as a disciplinary unit, and in 1977 was demilitarized and became a civilian settlement. The settlement is named after the biblical city of Naran .

Population

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics of Israel , the population at the beginning of 2018 was 92 people [2] .

Economics

Some kibbutzniks work in a plastic factory that produces food packaging.

Archaeological finds

In Naaran, not far from the kibbutz, the ruins of a VI-century synagogue have been preserved [3] . Antique mosaics and archaeological finds attract the attention of pilgrims [4] . In May 2012, the ancient synagogue was vandalized - it depicted swastikas and Palestinian flags [4] .
