Biography

He studied at the private hostel Apel, then at the Lyceum Richelieu gymnasium (until 1843). Then he studied at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Richelieu Lyceum (1844–1847) and entered the medical faculty of the University of St. Vladimir , who graduated in 1853 with the title of a doctor and with a gold medal for the essay β€œAnatomy and Mechanics of the Food Articulation”. As one of the best students, he was left at the university as an assistant to the prosector, and then, after defending his doctoral dissertation in 1854, acting as the prospector of the anatomical clinic, he was invited as a resident to the Kiev hospital of the charitable institutions. In 1857 he was appointed adjunct at the Department of State Medical Studies of the University of St. Vladimir; in 1859 he was approved by an extraordinary professor and head of the department ( ordinary professor - since 1860) until the day of his death. He was repeatedly elected dean of the medical faculty of the university (1865-1868, 1875-1883 and 1887-1890).

For many years, he headed the forensic department for the practical teaching of forensic research of a person at the Kiev military hospital. He was very famous among doctors as an experienced expert, invited to litigation for medical research, and as a scientist, who wrote a number of valuable, specially medical works. Ergardt's scientific works were published in Forensic Science, Forensic Newsletter, Military Medical Journal and other Russian and foreign journals.
