Pallet (plate for casting)

Pallet is a term from the field of metallurgy , denoting a massive cast-iron plate with a strictly horizontal working surface, which is used to place the molds on it for casting metal [1] [2] [3] . When using siphon casting, recesses and channels are provided in the central part of the pallet [1] .

Essence

The foundry pallet is a flat casting with a thickness of 10 to 30 cm, which contributes to the intensive cooling of the lower part of the obtained ingots, providing in the head part of the effective localization of segregation and shrinkage defects [2] . If the molds are used through the form, then on the pallet may be assigned the function of their bottom [2] .
