Day of morality and mercy

The Day of Morality and Mercy ( Persian روز اخلاق و مهرورزی ) is an Iranian holiday celebrated on 17 Rabbiul Aval according to the lunar hijra calendar. [one]

Holiday History

At a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution on March 6, 2007, a decision was made to include in the Iranian holiday calendar the Day of Morality and Mercy, which coincides with the birthday of the Prophet of Muslims Muhammad . Thus, annually this day is celebrated 17th Rabbiul Aaval according to the calendar of the lunar hijra . Due to the peculiarities of the lunar calendar, it is impossible to choose the appropriate date in the Gregorian calendar . In 2016, the holiday fell on December 16, in 2017 it will fall on December 6. [2]

The meaning of the holiday

Iranian authorities attach particular importance to this holiday in connection with numerous news of Islamist terrorists committing acts of violence and fanaticism every month. The Iranian government once again recalls the kindness that passes through the whole religion of Islam, and the righteous image of a true Muslim, the best example of which is the Prophet Muhammad . [3]

The Qur'an and Sunnah tells of the many merciful deeds committed by the Prophet . [4] The main types of mercy that pass through the entire canvas of the Muslim holy book are presented below:

  1. Mercy to believers . The Messenger’s compassion for believers was higher than for anyone. This is mentioned in the Qur'an in ayah 9: 128: “A Messenger from your midst appeared to you. It’s hard for him that you suffer. He is trying for you. He is compassionate and merciful to believers. ” [five]
  2. Mercy to your own enemies . The prisoners taken at the Battle of Badr were the worst enemies of the Prophet . However, Muhammad made sure that they received the best medical care. Umar , one of the closest associates of the Prophet , suggested pulling out two lower teeth of Suhayl ibn Amr , who constantly spoke evil words about the Prophet. Muhammad replied that for such a thing, Allah would punish him on Judgment Day, despite the fact that Muhammad is his messenger.
  3. Mercy to women . The prophet was also kind and attentive to women, despite the fact that many ignorant people considered women to be imperfect creatures compared to men. Muhammad gave women a place along with men in the community.
  4. Mercy to the children . The prophet was especially compassionate to the children. When he saw a crying child, he sat down next to him and listened to his sorrows. He felt motherly concern for his child more than the mother herself.
  5. Mercy to the slaves . The prophet strictly ordered to pay generously to slaves, servants and manual workers. He said: “Those whom Allah has made dependent on you are your brothers, servants and helpers. Anyone who has a brother in submission must feed him food that he eats, give him the clothes he wears. ”
  6. Mercy to the animals . The Prophet showed mercy not only to people, but also to animals. Muhammad forbade his comrades to keep animals hungry, to bother them in vain and to overload them with work. Abu Huraira said that once a traveler saw a dog licking dirt, tormented by thirst. The traveler watered the dog from the same well from which he drank. The Prophet was pleased with his act and had mercy on his sins.
