The Day of Villages and Peoples in Iran ( Persian روز روستا و عشایر , Ruz-e rusta va ashayer) is a holiday in Iran dedicated to rural areas and their inhabitants, which is celebrated on 15 mehras (October 7).
Village and Peoples Day appeared in 2013 at the initiative of the Rural Development Center, which submitted a request to the Public Center for Culture in order to pay tribute to the residents of rural areas and their work for the benefit of the country's development. [1] This holiday is aimed at the development of villages, as in rural areas of the country, residents often do not have the opportunity to meet their basic needs.
In recent years, many villages and peoples living in them have been neglected. No measures are taken to prevent the migration of residents from the villages. In addition, rural residents are not compensated for the damage caused to livestock by drought. In Iran, there is also a lack of communication lines between villages and cities where rural residents travel to sell their goods.
In order to stop the rapid flow of rural residents into the cities, it is necessary to eliminate the problem of water shortages, ensure public access to education, and also increase its level, especially in the field of agriculture and veterinary medicine, expand the network of libraries in villages, improve health care and improve skills medical specialists and other health workers, and pay attention to issues of culture, science and religion.
25% of Iran’s population lives in villages. Moreover, in each province there is a different ratio of the number of rural and urban residents. So, 42% of the population of the province of Kerman , namely 1,260 thousand people, live in villages. [2]
Currently, about 588 villages in Kerman province are experiencing water shortages, given that due to the arid climate in Iran, the average level of water consumption per person is twice the world norm. In 2016, the government implemented a project to provide water to 513 villages in the province. As part of this program, Iranian authorities laid a pipeline with a length of more than 1,159 km.
