Scientific Activities
The main directions of scientific activity: physiology, biochemistry and cytology of plants, mechanisms of membrane transport, structure and functions of plant membranes [1] .
The creator of new scientific directions in the field of plant physiology, molecular and cellular biology, genetic engineering, spent a lot of effort on studying the environmental problems of the Baikal region [1] .
Got the original data on the self-assembly of biological membranes, studied the "free space of the cell" and its role in cellular and tissue homeostasis. Proved the existence of endocytosis in plants, studied the most important aspects of its mechanism and physiological role [1] .
Conducts research in the field of gene and cell engineering, has developed an original design of the "gene gun" for genetic transformation of plants [1] .
Under his leadership, a number of transgenic plants were obtained with new economically valuable traits [1] .
Together with the staff of the SSC “Vector”, the Institute of Chemical Biology of Fundamental Medicine of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the laboratory of molecular phytopathology (Maryland, USA), a candidate edible vaccine against HIV-AIDS and hepatitis B was developed on the basis of genetically transformed plants [2] .
More than 20 of his students became candidates and doctors of science [3] .
