Biography
Shevchik was born in Gorazdjevice, he received his first lessons from his father. In 1870 he graduated from the Prague Conservatory in the class of Antonin Bennewitz , was her professor in different years (1892-1906, 1919-1921).
He toured and lived in the territory of modern Ukraine . He took part in concerts of the Kiev branch of the Russian Musical Society , including in ensembles with N. Lysenko . He taught at Ukrainian music institutions: 1874-1875 - at the Kharkov Music School ; 1875-1892 - at the Kiev Musical College . 1909 - 1918 - headed the department of violin at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts .
He published works on violin playing: "School of Violin Technique" (ch. 1-4, 1883), "School of bowing technique" (1903), and others. Author of works for violin (in particular, "Czech Dances and Chants").
Among his students are violinist, conductor, military conductor, Kiev musical teacher Konstantin Vout [1] . Also, his pupils such as Jan Kubelik , Yaroslav Kocian , Rudolf Kolisch , Juan Manen, Maria Hall , Victor Kolar, Erika Morini, Evgenia Uminska and Jan Sedivka owe their success to Shevchik. In particular, Petrovich Bissing traveled to Prague from Hays, Kansas , to study with Szewczyk [2] .
