Arbuzov Alexander Alekseevich (1945—2015) - captain-director of the large freezer trawler “Cape Senyavin” of the Sakhalin production association, Hero of Socialist Labor. Winner of the USSR State Prize (1981).

Biography

Born on February 3, 1945 in the village of Vassianovka, Chernihiv district, Primorsky region.

In 1964, he graduated from the Nevelskoye Nautical School with a degree in technician-navigator.

He worked as a sailor, navigator on large freezer fishing trawlers of the Sakhalinry Fishing Industry Production Association “Sakhalinrybprom” of the Main Directorate “Dalryba” of the USSR Ministry of Fishery.

In 1972-1977 - Captain-Director of the BMRT "New Era", since 1977 - Captain-Director of the BMRT "Cape Senyavin" of the Korsakov Ocean Fisheries Base of the Sakhalinrybprom Association of the All-Union Fishery Association of the Far Eastern Basin (VRPO "Dalryba").

Under his leadership, the crew of the BMRT "Cape Senyavin" in 1977-1983, caught fish and released fish products as much as all the fishing vessels of the Koraskovskaya BOR combined for the 1967 year.

For 10 months I caught 204 thousand centners of pollock .

He was awarded the title of "The Best Mentor of Youth in the Fisheries of the USSR".

By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 19, 1988 “for achieving the highest results in fulfilling plans and socialist commitments on fishing and fish production through the introduction of effective fishing methods, new forms of work organization and the labor heroism shown” Arbuzovu A. awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor [1] .

Later on, he was captain of the Sakhalin Island BMRT.

In 1994-1999 - Captain on the vessels of OJSC Pilenga, since 2000 - Deputy General Director of OJSC Pilenga for the safety of navigation [2] .

From 2009 he lived in the city of Belgorod .

He was elected a candidate member of the Sakhalin Regional Committee of the CPSU, a deputy of the Korsakov City and Sakhalin Regional Councils of Deputies (1973, 1975, 1977).

He died in October 2015 [3] .

Saving American Pilots

On October 26, 1978, the American Orion P-3C aircraft taking off from the Adak naval base on the Aleutian Islands crashed in the waters near Kamchatka. Despite the 7-point storm and poor visibility, the crew of the Cape Senyavin freezer trawler, commanded by A. A. Arbuzov, managed to save 10 people from the plane’s crew and deliver them to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, where from November 4, 1978 they were transferred to Japan, and from there to the USA [4] [5] . The crew of the trawler was awarded the medal "For the rescue of drowning people" for saving the crew of the aircraft.

Awarded 2 orders of Lenin (06/21/1984, 08/19/1988), the Order "Badge of Honor" (02/26/1974), medals, gold medal of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements (1979), For the salvation of drowning people.
