Sudeck Chernushka [1] ( lat. Erebia sudetica ) - diurnal butterfly from the family of marigolds , a species of the genus Erebia . Fore wing length 15-17 mm.

Name Etymology

Sudetica (toponymic) - Sudeten [2] .

Habitat and habitat

Mountains of Western ( France , Switzerland , Italy and Austria ), Central and Eastern Europe (mountains of the eastern Czech Republic , mountains of Slovakia , Tatra Mountains , Eastern and Southern Carpathians in Romania ) [1] . In Poland, he lived in the Bial Mountains ( Sudetenland ), where no species were observed after 1976, here the species may have become extinct. It is rare and locally found in the Tatras in Slovakia. In Romania, lives in the mountains of the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, on the Retezat massif.

Butterflies inhabit subalpine and alpine meadows , less commonly forest glades at heights of 1500–2500 m. [1] .

Biology

One generation a year. The flight time is July-August. The feed plant of the caterpillars is the odoriferous (Anthoxanthum odoratum) [1] and bluegrass (Poa annua) [3] . Caterpillars lead a predominantly secretive lifestyle. Caterpillars overwinter.

Security

The species is included in the Red Book of European Day Butterflies with the category SPEC1 - as a European endemic that is under global threat of extinction.
