Hawker, Wilfred ( Dutch: Wilfred Hawker ; 1955 , Paramaribo - March 13, 1982 , Paramaribo ) - military and political figure in Suriname . Member of two failed coups . He was sentenced to death by the ruling military government for his role in conspiracies . He was the last person sentenced to death in Suriname .

Biography
Wilfred Hawker was born in 1955 in Paramaribo. Until 1980, he served in the army of the Suriname Armed Forces . He was part of a group of sergeants led by Desi Bauters who carried out a coup d'etat on February 25, 1980. After the coup, Hawker was sent to the Netherlands , where he was trained in a unit of the Netherlands commandos [1] . On March 15, 1981, the Hawker attempted to plot against Bauters and his military government. However, the coup attempt failed and Wilfred Hawker was arrested and sent to a military prison. On March 11, 1982, he was released by conspirators who tried to organize a new coup against Desi Bauters [2] . On March 12, 1982, the Hawker was wounded and was hospitalized , where he was arrested by government forces. Wilfred Hawker was sent to Fort Zealand where he remained until the execution of the sentence.
Sentence and death
The tribunal sentenced Hocker to death for treason. On March 13, 1982, Wilfred Hawker was shot , his execution was shown live on Surinamese television [3] .
