Origin

Mikhail Lermontov is a direct descendant of George Lermont , a Scottish mercenary who switched to Russian service and became the founder of the noble family of Lermontov [1] . His father, Yuri Vladimirovich Lermontov (1928-2009) [2] , lieutenant colonel of the Soviet Army , was born in the family of Colonel Akhtyrsky Hussar Regiment Vladimir Mikhailovich Lermontov (1874-1954) [3] and maids of honor of the imperial court Maria Vladimirovna (1886-1959) [4 ] , nee von der Launitz. Thus, Mikhail Yuryevich is not only a member of the Lermontov’s noble family, but is also closely related to St. Petersburg city governor Vladimir Fedorovich von der Launitz (1855-1907), the commander of the Russian army in the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829, Peter Khristianovich Wittgenstein (1769-1843) and ancestors ascending along this line right up to the Time of Troubles and the Zemsky Cathedral in 1613 .

In the pedigree [5] , cited in the Lermontov Encyclopedia [6] , Mikhail enters the 11th knee of the Kolotilov branch, occupying the 204th position. Note that the poet M. Yu. Lermontov , takes 91 positions and is included in the 8th tribe of the Izmailovsky branch, which ceased with his death . The closest common ancestor for Michael and the Russian literary classic is the stolnik Yurya (Eutykhia) Petrovich Lermontov (1673-1708), who is included in the 3rd knee of the pedigree, where he occupies the 7th position.

Lermontov Heritage Association

In 1991, Mikhail Yuryevich, together with other representatives of the clan, creates and becomes the president of the Lermontov Heritage Association, which brought together the Lermontovs from Russia and the USA, France, Brazil, Switzerland, Bosnia, Herzegovina and the Scottish Lermonts. In 1992, the association established the “National Lermontov Center in Serednikovo”, whose director also became Mikhail Yuryevich. In 1995, the Lermontov Center entered into a lease agreement for 49 years with the administration of the Moscow Region , which is in disrepair of a cultural heritage site of federal significance of the estate “Mtsyri (Spasskoye) XVII-XVIII centuries.” Its historical name is “ Serednikovo Manor ” and it is known as the place where the great poet spent four summer seasons, and his second cousin Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin spent his childhood. In Soviet times, there was a tuberculosis sanatorium. The goal set by the association is the revival of the estate as a cultural and memorial complex [8] .

The first funds for the restoration of the estate, as well as for the activities of the association, were provided by Josephine Lermont, chairman of the association’s branch in London [9] . On the restoration of the manor complex, a Sunday school began to work there, exhibitions, concerts and other similar public, cultural and educational events are held.

The activities of Mikhail Lermontov in the framework of the association are significant enough for the country, which is confirmed by the awarding him in 2013, as the author of the educational project Almanac "Day of Poetry - XXI Century," the Russian Government Prize in the field of culture [8] [10] .
