Biography
Maria Konnikova was born into a Jewish family in Moscow in 1984 [1] . After the Soviet Union opened its borders to allow Jews to move to Israel , her family emigrated, but not to Israel, but to the United States; Mary at that time was 4 years old. The Konnikovs settled in Massachusetts [2] . Accustomed to propaganda in the Soviet Union, Konnikova’s parents decided to live without television [3] .
Maria graduated from Harvard University , became a bachelor of psychology and literature, defended a doctorate in psychology at Columbia University . She worked as a television producer, writes for several magazines and online publications, and also wrote the two best-selling books according to the New York Times [4] .
In 2017, Maria Konnikova announced that she was starting to learn how to play poker without having any experience in card games. Her mentor is Eric Seidel , a professional poker player and member of the Poker Hall of Fame . She planned to continue her studies throughout the year, simultaneously working on a book about it; The release of the book was scheduled for 2018. On May 1, 2018, the writer announced that the release of the book was postponed to 2019. The reason for this was that she began to earn large sums of money by participating in poker tournaments, and devote more time to the game [4] . In January 2018, she won 86 thousand dollars (5.5 million rubles) in the PCA National tournament [5] , then took second place in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau and received 57 thousand dollars (3.6 million rubles).
