Lipovac Monastery was built in the 14th century . Initially, there was only the court church of the local feudal lord, who owned the fortification nearby. In 1399, the monk Herman founded a monastery in this place, helped by the Serbian despot Stefan Lazarevich . The first monks settled in Lipovac, fleeing the raids of the Ottoman troops. It was first mentioned in chronicles dating back to 1413, when the Morava River valley was captured by the Turks. They ravaged the monastery and the nearby fortification. Soon, the Serbs were able to return these territories, the monastery was restored and expanded.

After World War II, the property of the monastery was confiscated by the Yugoslav authorities. In the monastery itself, the church carried out restoration work. During the time of the SFRY, archaeological excavations were also repeatedly carried out on its territory.

Since 1974, the abbot of the monastery is Archimandrite Dionysius.
