Biography

Born on September 30, 1880 in the village of Novy Dvor near Gorki nad Jizerou. He worked as a social security officer in the town of Sobieslav . There he began to write. He began to publish his poems [1] and stories in regional magazines and newspapers: “South Bohemian Reviews” (Jihočeské ohlasy), “Interests of the Czech-Moravian Highlands” (Zájmy Českomoravské vysočiny), in 1919 “List” magazine and later decided to make a career as a writer. His pseudonym V. V. Roshtinsky (VV Roštínský) [2] [3] [4] . He was also the editor of various magazines (South Bohemian Reviews [5] ). In addition, he took an active part in the life of the local community, for example, in the representations of the local amateur theater.

In 1933, his son Miroslav, a poet and law student, at the age of 21 drowned in the river Lužnice . A year later, he published a collection of poems of his dead son entitled “Evenings of Edges and Souls” (Večery krajů a duší). This tragedy was associated with a significant deterioration in the health of Vitezslav Valenta. He died three years later in a hospital in the city of Tabor [6] .

Creativity

Among his most famous works is the drama “Towards the Truth. A picture of life in two acts and five pictures "(Cestou k pravdě. Obraz ze života ve 2 jednáních a 5 obrazech, Sobieslav 1908) [7] ," Night shift (October 28): Drama in 4 acts "(Noční šichta ( 28. říjen): Drama o 4 jednáních, Sobieslav 1919) [8] , sketches “From the altar of nature” (Z oltáře přírody, Prague 1921), a collection of stories and sketches “Shadows and henbane” (Stíny a blíny, Benešov 1926) and “Paths of the heart” (Pěšiny srdce, Brno 1912, Sobieslav 1930).
