Palm Garden ( Dutch: Palmentuin , English: Garden of Palms ) is a landscape palm garden located in Paramaribo . In addition to tall royal palms , tropical birds and a flock of capuchin monkeys are found in the garden [1] . The Palm Garden is a tourist attraction and is located on Van Roseveltkade Street behind the Suriname Government Building [1] .

Royal palm trees were planted in the garden on the orders of , Governor of Suriname in 1683-1688. In 1685, he opened the garden for free access. After the murder of the governor by a group of rebel soldiers in 1688, the entrance to the park was closed to visitors until the 20th century. A playground has been built in the park, and during the holidays there is trade. In 2002, Paramaribo was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List , and the Palm Garden was named an important element of the urban landscape [2] . In 2009, the institution allocated $ 147 thousand to restore the garden.
