History
At the end of the 19th century, the territory of the Bulduri district was under the jurisdiction of the Lutheran parish in Sloka . Due to the growing population of Lutheran religion in Bulduri, the district owner and summer residents decided to organize a fundraiser for the construction of a church. In 1887, the construction money was collected, on August 15, 1888 the first stone was laid in the foundation of the building. The construction was carried out according to the project of the German architect Hermann Hilbig . The temple was built of coarse dark brick and was named “Waldkapelle” - “Forest Chapel”.
June 29, 1889 the church was consecrated. In 1894 it was expanded - a tower was attached and wrought-iron doors were made with a memorable sign with thanks to Emperor Alexander III , who personally allocated a plot of land for the construction of a church [1] .
The church did not suffer in the First World War , and with the end of the war the services resumed again. In 1930, at the expense of Kristaps Morberg, the church was reconstructed again: the roof was repaired, electricity was provided. At this time, the pastor here served Martins Eige. In 1937, an additional room was added to the church, adjacent to the main space of the church; expanded body. The inscription “Dievs ir mīlestība” (God is love) was placed above the altar. Kirch acquired its modern look.
After Latvia joined the USSR and the Second World War, the church was secularized . From 1952 to 1992, the building housed a branch of the Latvian State Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents.
In 1991, the first after a long break, the meeting of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation Bulduri took place. On May 9, 1994, the Bulduri district was officially assigned to the church. In 1996, the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation Bulduri became part of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church. On June 26, 2004, the internal appearance of the church was completely restored. [2]
Current State
Today, the pastor of the church is Arniss Bass, the evangelist is Leons Novicians, the head of the church community is Janis Celms. Divine services are held regularly, there is a Sunday school, and plans to create a church choir.
