The twenty-first awarding ceremony for the winners in the categories “Daytime Live” and “Evening Prime” was held in two stages on the same day - October 3, 2017 ^[7] . It was originally planned to be held on June 27, 2017 ^[8] . However, not all members of the jury were able to figure out the updated voting system, and a “computer failure” occurred during the vote count. The founders decided to re-vote ^[9] . Since there was only one week remaining at the time of the ceremony, it was decided to postpone it to October 3 of the same year so that the re-voting was “without haste” ^[10] . The venue of both stages of the ceremony was the cinema "Russia" ^[7] , initially it was planned to be held traditionally in the first studio of the television technical center "Ostankino" ^[11] . The hosts of the first stage of the ceremony were Elena Malysheva and Evgeny Dodolev , Svetlana Khorkina and Victor Gusev , Anastasia Chernobrovina and Olga Skabeeva , and the second - Maria Sittel and Ernest Matskevichyus , Natalia Medvedeva and Leonid Yakubovich , Vadim and Igor Verniki , Andrey Malakhovnikov and Boris Korchevnikov ^{[12 ]} . The television version of the award ceremony in the nominations of the “Evening Prime” category was prepared and shown on the air by the Russia-1 television channel ^[13] .

According to the TV critic Irina Petrovskaya , the awarding in the news and socio-political nominations of the programs “ Time will show ”, “ Time ”, “ News of the week ”, “ 60 minutes ” and such hosts as Andrei Dobrov , Vladimir Solovyov , Olga Skabeeva , Evgeny Popov and Roman Babayan "causes a rash." Former president of the Russian Television Academy Vladimir Pozner published an open letter on his website to the TEFI contest organizers, urging them to abandon this name and use the Orpheus figurine because of the undemocratic selection of finalists and determining the winners. The journalist said that at one time he promised the statuette author Ernst Unknown to do everything in such a situation so that she would no longer be awarded ^{[19] [20]} .
