Geographical position

Village History
The village got its name by the name of the settlers of the Kostylev peasants. The village was first mentioned in the census of the county in 1624 [2] .
Monastery of St. Kosmins Desert
In 1704, a stop was made at the site of the settlement when the relics of the holy righteous Simeon were transferred from the village of Merkushino to the city of Verkhoturye . And when the holy fool Cosma, crawling on his knees behind the coffin was tired, he asked: "Brother Simeone, let's rest." And the procession with the coffin stopped. In the late XIX - early XX centuries, a chapel was erected on this site, which was destroyed in Soviet times. In 2000, the restoration of the temple began, which was consecrated in the name of St. Blessed Cosmas of Verkhotursky on May 26, 2003. Then a monastery complex was built, in which at first the courtyard of the Yekaterinburg Novo-Tikhvin Nunnery was located . By the Decree of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on March 27, 2007, the Holy Kosminsky Desert Monastery was opened. The monastery is located on the way of pilgrims following the worship of the miraculous relics of the righteous Simeon of Verkhotursky [2] .
