Ignacy Kopa ( Polish: Ignacy Kopa ; November 9, 1875 , Tschelin [1] - April 20, 1929 , Poznan ) - Polish chess player and chess figure.

He came from a family of small landowners. Probably learned to play chess at home. He began to speak actively during his studies in Berlin and Aachen (received an engineering education). In Aachen, he headed the academic chess club.
He was engaged in a chess composition. He published his tasks in the magazines Illustrated Russia and Deutsche Schachzeitung . He took part in competitions for solving chess problems.
He made his international debut in 1905 when he was included in the second-strongest tournament in Barman . In the competition, Kopa took 9th place with a score of 9 out of 17 (+ 6-5 = 6). He won the games against the rising stars A. I. Nimtsovich and R. Shpilman , as well as experienced masters A. Reggio , B. Leissen , A. Neumann and O. Pettersson .
Upon returning to Poland in 1907-1909 was chairman of the chess club in Poznan .
In subsequent years, he devoted himself to work. He was a co-owner of a land reclamation company, and also worked actively in an association of technicians.
Along with chess, he was engaged in rowing .
In 1926, Kopa achieved major sporting success: with a result of 14 out of 15, he won the Poznan championship. As a champion of one of the largest Polish cities, he received an invitation to the national championship, but due to health reasons he could not participate in it.
The following year, he shared 4-5 places in the championship of the Poznan chess club. Then, in a match with the national team of Warsaw, he tied with D. Pshepürka , and in a match with Wroclaw he defeated Kramer and Sikorski.
The last performances of the Cops took place in 1929, when he represented Poznan at the Polish team championship. Kopa played on the 1st board, but without much success: he lost to T. Regedzinsky and A. Blass . Then a match was organized for the title of champion of Poznan between Kopa and A. Wojciechowski . Kopa won the first 3 games out of 4, but the match was not over due to his sudden death.
