Journalism

Aleshkovsky worked in the media since he was 14 years old, starting with a minor position in the Polit.ru publishing house. Most journalistic careers are associated with professional photography. In 2004 he went to work as a photojournalist in the newspaper " Vzglyad ". At various times, his works were published in Forbes , Newsweek , Hello, Psychologies , Kommersant , Big City , Expert , Novaya Gazeta , The New Times , Izvestia , and several other publications. Aleshkovsky also collaborated with foreign Media - Associated Press , EPA , Reuters [1] .

Aleshkovsky regularly in an interview mentions that he has an active civil position. He was associated with several lawsuits, including in the media environment. So, in August 2012, during the criminal proceedings against Pussy Riot , Aleshkovsky was not allowed to go to court either as a witness for the defense or as an accredited photojournalist [5] . But in January 2013, the management of the Investigative Committee called him as a witness at a rally in Bolotnaya Square , where he worked on instructions from ITAR-TASS [6] [7] [8] . In March 2013, Mitya Aleshkovsky, his colleague for the charitable foundation Sergey Gubanov and the LGBT blogger , portal Yuri Gavrikov, were arrested at the Pulkovo airport during a recording of an interview. They were charged with unauthorized video filming and altercations with police officers, but the St. Petersburg and Moscow court found all three innocent. In turn, Aleshkovsky’s defense filed a complaint with the ombudsman in St. Petersburg against the actions of the police [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] . In September 2013, a protest was held in the country against the arrest of Denis Sinyakov , a Greenpeace photographer. Aleshkovsky suggested that the Russian media close the photos on the websites with plugs in solidarity with Sinyakov, the action was supported by the publications Lenta.ru , Svobodnaya Pressa , Russkaya Planeta, Novaya Gazeta, Echo Moskvy radio station and Dozhd TV channel [ 14] .

Among the partner media projects, in which Aleshkovsky participated, there was a program about sensitive charity on Ekho Moskvy radio, which he conducted from October 2014 to January 2016 together with Lesia Ryabtseva . In January, Aleksey Venediktov pushed him off the air, refusing to change his co-host because of disagreements, although the idea of the program belonged to Aleshkovsky. Ryabtseva, in turn, insisted that she was the only leading, and Aleshkovsky - a permanent expert [15] [16] [17] .

In 2017, Lentach Publishing House and Such Cases media portal, together with the LavkaLavka company, launched a YouTube show about the development of the Far Eastern hectare . Mitya Aleshkovsky with a farmer and entrepreneur, Boris Akimov, led a video diary about a trip to Khabarovsk to show by example that the most remote areas could be used for the benefit of themselves and agriculture by building a successful business [18] [19] .

In 2018, Aleshkovsky posted a number of negative publications about Aeroflot in his blog. As a result, the company has deprived it of platinum status and accumulated miles. In November 2018, Aleshkovsky apologized to Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Savelyev for insulting him. In May 2019, the Presnensky Court of Moscow rejected Aleshkovsky’s claim to Aeroflot, demanding the return of platinum status and accumulated miles [20] .

Charity

Organization of assistance in the flood in Krymsk

Aleshkovsky helped to extinguish forest fires in the Nizhny Novgorod region in a group of volunteers back in 2010 [21] . In 2012, a flood occurred in Krymsk . At the same time, the festive meeting of journalists at the “Tomorrow” club was to take place in Moscow, at which they decided to help the victims as much as possible. A humanitarian aid collection point was organized at the MSU viewing platform . Aleshkovsky came there with medicines, stayed to help, and gradually led the gathering process with Maria Baronova . With the Sparrow Hills in the end sent 150 tons of cargo. Aleshkovsky was engaged in the search for transport for people and goods: “The first wagon was given by a man who killed relatives in Krymsk. Then we started to rent trucks for money, we collected cash . ” He also came to Krymsk to coordinate the work of the Dobry volunteer camp on the spot. Deputy Ilya Ponomarev noted that during that journalistic campaign about a million dollars had been raised to eliminate the consequences [22] [23] [24] [25] .

Project “Need help. Ru”

Another philosophical problem. Why should people help someone else? Most often the answer is: this person should be helped by the state. What is a state? None of us ask ourselves this question, we live with full confidence that the governor, the mayor, the president - this is the state. Only it is not a state, but power. The state is us, you, they. And if we say that the state should actually save dying children, then it’s us, you and they should save them, not Putin, Uss, Eremin. Yes, officials have such obligations, they are endowed with power, budget is distributed, laws are written. But these are our interests too.

from an interview with Mitya Aleshkovsky [26]

The experience and accumulated materials obtained during the Crimean incident formed the basis of the “Need for help.ru” charitable project (nuzhnapomosh.ru), which Mitya Aleshkovsky launched in September 2012. He had to leave ITAR-TASS to develop the project. It was an information portal with stories about “social heroes”, “which are important for society by their activities and who will have to wait for support from anyone but the society itself”. At the start, the project brought together 50 journalists from various media who, on a volunteer basis, created materials for the site “Need Help. Ru” and, under an agreement with their chief editor, laid them out on the pages of working media [27] .

The project raised sharp social issues, helped financially and legally the heroes of the materials, raised funds for charitable initiatives, including regional ones. To raise funds, Aleshkovsky joined the Foundation “Mosaic of Happiness”. In an interview of that time, he said that “I need help” - this is a temporary project name, a permanent one will be approved later [28] [29] .

A subscription form was posted on the website, and already in the first month of operation, more than 600 donations were collected totaling 600 thousand rubles, and over the three years of the project’s operation, the fund received more than 30 million rubles. Funds were distributed among 40 charitable infrastructure initiatives [30] [31] [32] .

Flooding in the Far East and the project "Amur'13"

In August 2013, Aleshkovsky again announced the collection of volunteers to eliminate the consequences of flooding in Blagoveshchensk and agreed with the airlines on the transport of people and humanitarian aid to the Far East [33] [34] . The joint volunteer operation, created on the basis of the organization of work in Krymsk, was named Amur'13 . In order to increase interest in the program, Aleshkovsky wrote down for the site of the appeal of famous people, among them were the actors Gosha Kutsenko , Konstantin Khabensky , Alexander Filippenko , Pyotr Krasilov , Andrey Merzlikin , Danila Kozlovsky , Nikolai Baskov , Sergey Svetlakov , musicians Evgeny Kissin , Svyatoslav Vakarchuk , Veronika Dolina , journalists Tina Kandelaki and Leonid Parfenov [35] [36] . The program raised 5 million rubles and more than 150 tons of humanitarian aid, which was delivered to 25 localities. The funds received, including the feldsher-midwife center in the village of Kasatkino , which suffered the most from floods, were restored [37] . In 2014, Amur'13 was recognized as the project of the year during the presentation of the annual report on the state and development of charitable foundations in Russia [38] .

In 2014, Aleshkovsky collected humanitarian aid for victims of floods in the Balkans [39] .

In 2013, the Need for Help fund was established, its mission is the systematic development of philanthropy in Russia. Since the launch of the first project, the number of donors has ceased to grow, it was required to involve a new audience. May 25, 2015 Aleshkovsky announced the opening of the media portal "Such things." The press release stated that the portal “is actively interacting with both regional and federal NGOs, collecting stories about charitable projects that for some reason did not come into the view of other media [40] ”. The site takiedela.ru is divided into two co-dependent parts: a magazine that serves as a crowdfunding platform, and a section on the fund. The slogan of the new media was “to return a person to journalism” [41] .

“Need Help” is the name of the foundation, and “Such cases” is the name of the portal. “Such cases” is our tool for the fund to bring the maximum amount of benefit [42] .

According to the reporting of the fund, through the platform from 2015 to August 2018, it was possible to collect almost half a billion rubles, the money goes to support about 100 funds, which in turn help more than 80 thousand people [48] [49] [50] .

For 2018, “Need Help” and “Such Affairs” are also engaged in research, educational activities, organize grant competitions, run the educational program “Charitable tours”, shoot short films and launch various interactive special projects, translate and publish popular books about how charity [51] [52] .
