Australosuchus clarkae

Australosuchus clarkae (lat.) Is a species of extinct reptiles from the subfamily Mekosuchinae of the family of true crocodiles (Crocodylidae). A typical and only species of the genus Australosuchus [1] , whose name translates as "southern crocodile".

The species was described in 1991 by the holotype QM F16788, an incomplete skeleton consisting of an almost complete skull and jaw, a part of the cervical and thoracic spine, scapula, humerus and skin carapace, which was found in Lake Palankarna in South Australia [2] .

According to dating of fossil remains, Australosuchus clarkae lived in the Upper Oligocene – Middle Miocene ( 28.4–11.6 Ma ago) [3] .
