Sires [1] ( afrik . and eng. Ceres ) is a city in the south-west of the Republic of South Africa , in the territory of the Western Cape . Included in the Cape Winelands . It is the administrative center of the local municipality of Vitsenberch . It consists of three parts: the actual Siresa, Bella Vista and Nduli.

History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1854 . In 1964, Cires received the status of a municipality . The name of the city is associated with the name of the ancient Roman goddess of the harvest and fertility of Ceres [2] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the province, on the banks of the River Bride (Brie), at a distance of approximately 91 kilometers (as the crow flies) to the northeast of Cape Town , the provincial capital. The absolute height is 508 meters above sea level [3] .
Climate
The climate of the city is subtropical Mediterranean . The average annual rainfall is 599 mm. The greatest amount of precipitation falls between April and October . The average maximum air temperature varies from 15.2 ° C (in July) to 28.2 ° C (in February). July is the coldest month of the year. The average minimum night temperature for this month is 3.8 ° C [4] .
Population
According to the official census of 2011, 33,224 people lived in the city, of which men accounted for 49.06%, women - respectively 50.94%. The racially colored accounted for 61.04% of the city’s population; blacks - 28.73%; whites - 8.24%; Asians (including Indians ) - 0.39%; representatives of other races - 1.25%. The most common languages among citizens were Afrikaans (68.56%), Spit (22.45%), Sesot (2.86%) and English (2%) [5] [6] [7] .
Transportation
Regional highways R46 and R303 pass through the city. There are several railway stations.
