Biography
Born in 1963 in the village of Amesi. August 22, 1992 was ordained a priest .
On December 7, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Akhiara. On May 21, 2013, he was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Owerri, John Valentin Obinna, in conjunction with Archbishop Jos Ignatius Ayau Kaigama and Cardinal Archbishop John Aluronfemi Oneyekan of Abuja .
Prior to his ordination as bishop, he faced opposition from the priesthood and diocesan believers who refused to recognize his appointment for ethnic reasons [1] [2] . The previous bishop of Achiar’s diocese, Victor икikwe, belonged to the Mbasi ethnic group, which makes up the majority of diocese believers, while Pete Okpalek came from the Ob ethnic group [1] . The ordinance was ordained in the city of Owerri in the chapel of the local seminary. Subsequently, he could not commit ingress . In July 2013, Pope Francis appointed Cardinal John Olorunfemi Oniyekan as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Ahira.
In June 2017, Pope Francis met with a delegation of the Catholic priesthood from Nigeria regarding the situation in the Diocese of Akhiara [3] . On June 8, 2017, Pope Francis demanded from each priest of the diocese a written statement of loyalty to Peter Okpalek. Otherwise, according to Pope Francis, who refused to recognize the authority of Peter Okpaleke, a ban is imposed in the ministry [4] .
He resigned on February 19, 2018 [5] .
