Biography
Occurred from the nobility of the St. Petersburg province . Orthodox religion.
He was educated in the Noble regiment . On August 2 , 1843, he was released from it to the field (military) engineers and on August 15 was seconded to the Main School of Engineering to listen to the course. June 22, 1845 was transferred to the upper class, and on September 13 received the rank of second lieutenant. The course in the officer class of the SMI graduated in the following 1846 and on June 24 was enrolled in the St. Petersburg engineering team. On 2 August of the same year, he was transferred to Warsaw, and on 29 August to the Novo-Orgievsky engineering team. On March 9 , 1847, Walberg was again transferred to Warsaw, and on May 14 , 1848, again to the Novorgeyevsk engineering team. May 4 , 1850 he was awarded the rank of lieutenant.
On March 1 , 1854, during the Crimean War, Walberg was appointed head of the drawing room to the office of the head of engineers of the active army, engineer KA Schilder . After the war, June 20, 1857, he was again transferred to the Warsaw engineering team. On January 22, 1858, he was promoted to headquarters captain, and on March 24 he was appointed senior adjutant to the General Staff headquarters for the management of the quartermaster general. April 5 , 1861 received the rank of captain. On October 27 of the same year, he was expelled from the post of senior adjutant, and on December 19 he was once again sent to the Warsaw engineering team.
On December 10 , 1862, Walberg was appointed acting clerk for the artificial part and head of the 2nd division of the head of engineers department in the Kingdom of Poland . While part of the Warsaw garrison, he participated in the suppression of the Polish uprising of 1863-1864 .
On September 14 , 1864, Wahlberg served as headquarters officer for special assignments in the district engineering department of the Warsaw Military District , and on June 25, 1865 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel [4] with approval in that position [5] . On June 2 , 1868, he was appointed Acting clerk for the artificial part of the office of the Engineering Committee [6] , and on December 3 , promoted to colonel [7] . May 16 , 1883 he was appointed a member of the Engineering Committee of the SMI. With the permission of the Minister of War, he was entrusted with the task of correcting the position of the de-producer of the Office of the same committee on the artificial part.
According to the characteristics of S. A. Vengerov , Valberg “I had a brilliant reputation as a military engineer, technician, builder and expert in my field . ” He worked in the castle, barracks and other commissions. He was a member of the Russian Technical Society and the Russian Society for the Conservation of Public Health . In 1859 he was sent abroad to buy machine tools for the construction of an iron bridge in Warsaw ( Alexandrovsky Bridge ) over the Vistula . He was a delegate and exhibitor from the Military Engineering Department at the World Exhibition in Paris (1867) ; All-Russian manufactory exhibition in St. Petersburg (1870); Polytechnic exhibition in Moscow (1872) , for which he was awarded the gold medal "Moscow Polytechnic Exhibition"; The World Exhibition in Vienna (1873) ; the first International Hygienic Exhibition in Brussels (1876) and the first International Electric Exhibition in Paris (1881) (for the last two awarded silver medals) [2] . In the late 1870s, he was the clerk of the commission on the project of A. F. Mozhaisky , who prevented the creation of his aircraft and, in fact, the development of aeronautics as a whole [8] [9] .
Back in 1870, Valberg was assigned to the theater of military operations of the Franco-Prussian War [2] by the highest order, for which in 1871 he was awarded the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle of the 2nd degree and the Order of Saint Anna of the 2nd degree with swords. On August 30, 1878, Walberg was awarded the rank of Major General [10] . From 1883 - member of the Engineering Committee [11] (with the retention of clerk office of the artificial part [12] ).
Walberg collaborated with a number of periodicals. His articles have been published in publications such as the Journal of the Ministry of Railways , the Engineering Journal , and others. [13]
Ivan Valberg died in the city of Pau in the south of France [13] . He was buried there. As S. Vengerov noted, Ivan Wahlberg was “A man of perfect honesty, he died a beggar, although all his life he had dealt with state-owned million buildings” [2] .

- ↑ In the reference book of S. V. Volkov “The Generality of the Russian Empire” it was indicated that Valberg participated in the campaign in Central Asia in 1871 [1] , however that year he was on a business trip to the active Prussian army during the Franco-Prussian war [2 ] and in Central Asia was not. In the track record of Walberg for 1885, not counting trips to Europe, only the campaign against the Polish insurgents is officially indicated [3] .
