The father of Gnei Kalpurnia was a quaestor 65 BC. e. the same name that ancient authors accuse of participating in the first conspiracy of Catilina .
In the war between Guy Julius Caesar and Gnei Pompey the Great, Peison sided with the latter. In 49 BC e. he was a pro-investor in Spain, in 46 he commanded the Moorish cavalry in the army of Metellus Scipio in Africa . After the death of Caesar, Gnei Calpurnius joined his killers. When the civil wars ended, Gnei Kalpurniy was restored in his rights and was able to return to Rome. He refrained from participating in state affairs; nevertheless, in the year 23, Augustus appointed him consul-suffect , and during his illness handed him documentation with a list of state revenues and troops.
